First Nissan Leaf With Advanced Driver Assist System Begins Testing

For the first time, Nissan's Advanced Driver Assist System will be put to the test on the streets ofJapan. Equipped through the Nissan Leaf, the System provides features such as lane keeping, exiting or changing, overtaking of slower or stopped vehicles, deceleration during road congestion and red-light stopping - all done autonomously via remarkable sensor and radar technology. Having been in development for previous years, this first real-life, real-time testing of the system will accelerate and pinpoint areas of needed development within the system's technologies.

This all goes towards the automaker's extremely excitingAutonomous Driveobjective for multiple commercially viable vehicles equipped with the system, targeted for implementation by the year 2020 as signified by the chosen Nissan Leaf's license plate. Beyond its zero-emissions capacity, the success ofAutonomous Drivecould mean a significant decrease in road fatalities - marking an enormous step for humankind in roadside safety. "A month ago we revealed to the world our2020 Autonomous Drivetarget. Road testing of the underlying technologies is critical to maintain our leadership position and we are grateful to the Government of Japan for its support," notes Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn.
